| How a hole punch works |
| The paper to be punched is placed into the holepunch with one end against the end of the punch, and the other usually held inplace by a measuring strip. A handle is the pressed down, forcing a number of metal punchers through the paper to create the holes. The waste paper from these holes then falls into a storage area underneath the hole punch, and the metal punchers return to their original position, allowing the paper to be removed.
