Generally, the higher this rating, the more secure a safe is believed to be. | | | Valuable Rating This is the financial amount of valuables you can store in a safe that insurance companies will cover for. It is usually ten times the cash rating. For example, if the cash rating is 10,000, (meaning you could store £10,000 cash in the safe) the valuable rating would probably be 100,000, meaning up to £100,000 worth of jewelry, items etc could be stored in the safe. | | | Please remember cash and valuable ratings are only there as guides, and you should check with your insurance company before storing anything of value in the safe. | | Attributes | Fire protection This is the length of time a safes contents would be protected for in the event of a fire. It is measured by placing the safe into a furnace which is then heated to certain temperatures to see how the contents react. | Standard Locking This is the method the safe is locked by. The most common ones are key, combination lock or electronic lock. | Fixing This refers to whether or not the safe can be easily attached to floors or walls. Ones that can come with pre-drilled holes. | |

| How are safes tested for strength? |
| To be listed as fireproof, as well as taking the fire protection test, safes also undergo impact testing. Safes are usually heated up to the fire protection temperature and then dropped from various heights to reflect them falling from high floors in buildings if supports give way in a fire. | Does a UL tested safe guarantee me security? |
| Not always... a safe that has passed a UL test will have met strict standards and will be secure. However many manufacturers try to sell their product as 'UL tested'. Please note tested doesn't mean that it passed the test. You should check this with the manufacturer before purchase. You can find a list of manufacturers contact details here. Back to top |
