What do the numbers on the staple box mean?
The staple number indicated on the packaging does cause some confusion. Here are some tips to help you select the correct staple for your machine.
1. The first digits 24, 26, 23 etc indicate the gauge of wire used in manufacturing the staple. The smaller the number the heavier the gauge.
2. The second digit indicates the depth of the leg in mm.
3. So a 26/6 staple means the gauge wire is 26 with a 6mm leg.
It is important to use the correct leg length. If the staple leg is too short the staples will not bind the papers together or if the leg is too long the staple will have too much fold over.
What size of Staple should I use?
The size of staples you need depends on a number of things. Most desk top and hand held staplers use a standard 26/6 staple. However if you are stapling more than 20 sheets at one time then you are not using the correct staple.
All of the staplers featured in our range show details of the number of sheets the stapler is capable of stapling at any one time along with the size of staple suited for the stapler.

Choosing The right Staples
It is important to use the correct sized staples for your stapler, as loading a stapler with the incorrect sized staples can lead to jamming and malfunction of the mechanism.
Staple sizes are usually expressed as two numbers split by a slash, for example 26/6.The first number refers to the gauge of the wire and the second number is the length of the shank or teeth of the staples in millimeters.
Some staplers can accommodate staples with more than one shank or tooth length. You should choose the staple which is best for the quantity of sheets you wish to staple together. Longer toothed staples are designed for stapling large amounts of paper, shorter toothed staples are designed for stapling fewer sheets.
