The first patented bookend was registered in the 1870’s for the simple Sheetmetal bookend design, but Heavy duty bookends and Cast Iron bookends have been around for longer. Apart from the bookend’s application as the usual office stationery (sometimes misspelled as stationary) item, bookends have also become a collectable item varying in shape and artistic style.
