Styrofoam, polystyrene, insulated... Whatever you call them, this kind of disposable cup is familiar to us all. To me, it's a reminder of cold days visiting Brick Lane market in London, having a hot, sweet cup of tea (and maybe a hot dog with lots of onions).
I'm sure, if you think about it, you'll have your own memories associated with these foam drinking cups too. But, and I admit I'm taking a big gamble here, I'll guess that you've never thought of them as art.
Cheeming Boey – great name – is an artist. He draws wonderful, complex pictures on those cups. He sits down with a Sharpie pen and starts. No pencil sketch to trace over, so if he makes a mistake that's it.
We thought this was such a clever idea that we decided to try it out ourselves. Or, rather, I asked my mum to have a go. Here's her creation:

She was a bit reticent to try drawing at first, she claimed she couldn't draw at all, but after a few seconds she was really enjoying using her fine black felt-tip pen to doodle and sketch on her (unusual) canvas. She drew a man in a hammock, some parrots in trees and more. She even hid a cat or two in the picture.
Now, I don't think my mum would mind me saying that her work, as charming as it is, isn't quite up there with Cheeming Boey's cup art.

What's important is that she took an everyday office item and turned it into something special.
You could too. All you need, if you're going to follow Cheeming Boey's example, is a Sharpie pen and some foam cups, that's it. Then you just have to put the pen on the cup and start drawing. Of course you can re-use your cup – you won't have to scrawl your name on it when someone does the tea round in the office.
If you have the time then why not do a few cup doodles yourself – send us in your pics and we'll get them on the blog!
