During a sales demonstration at a woodworking trade show, the presenter showed the crowd how both an ordinary saw and one with a saw stopping safety device might work when it hit an operator's finger.  To simulate a finger, he used a sausage.  Intrigued, a curious spectator stepped up for a closer look, only to be struck in the eye by a flying piece of debris.
My computer was acting up yesterday.  Despite rebooting it three times over the course of the day, it was still slow and unreliable.  Needless to say, I was annoyed.
Has this week seemed especially dark and dreadful to you?  There’s a psychological explanation for that….

For weeks now British chocolate maker Cadbury has been rebuffing approaches from Kraft – the American company perhaps most famous for its cheese products – only to finally accept a whopping £11.9 billion buyout offer this week.  Big news in the business world, to be sure.  But the burning question on every chocolate lover’s mind is:  Will the taste of our beloved Cadbury’s chocolate change?
Many of us woke up to even more snow this morning and faced a long and difficult commute to work – again.  You’d think everyone would have figured out how to deal by now.  But no – the airports are still closing, trains are still delayed and children are still delighting in school cancellations. But is all of this really an excuse for not making it to work?

On the surface, it may appear that Father Christmas (aka Santa Claus) has one of the best jobs in the world.  He only has to work one day a year (let’s face it, his elves do most of the real work in the off season), he gets to eat loads of free mince pies and he’s single handedly responsible for making millions and millions of children (and adults) happy.

Just how much are we doing to counteract climate change and lead greener lives?  Not enough, apparently.  With green issues at the centre of the world’s attention recently, most of us are keen to do our part and help the planet.

The widespread use of pet names in this country has always puzzled me.  You just don’t hear Americans calling each other ‘babe’ and ‘dearie’ – outside of Texas or a seedy bar, that is.
